Ostwestfalen-Lippe University of Applied Sciences

The Ostwestfalen-Lippe University of Applied Sciences goal is to tackle complex problems and global challenges, and work to ensure that knowledge and innovations benefit society. HS-OWL provides education and research in engineering, economics and management, life science technologies, design and construction.

The Institute Industrial IT (inIT) is part of OWL University of Applied Sciences, which is ranked among the best with respect to research and development in Germany and will serve as the coordinating institution of IMPROVE. The inIT has outstanding competencies in the area of industrial communication systems, industrial image processing, pattern recognition, industrial self-analysis, self-optimization and self-configuration. As part of the Centrum Industrial IT in Lemgo Germany, the inIT is an experienced innovator for applied science and collaborative industrial research projects. The inIT, will contribute their expertise in model learning, condition monitoring and diagnostics as well as virtual simulation for technological advancement of physical production systems in IMPROVE.

Prof. Dr. Oliver Niggemann is a professor of computer science at the HS-OWL in Lemgo since 2008 and is the Coordinator of IMPROVE. His present research interests lie within range of embedded software engineering, simulation and diagnosis of technical systems, machine learning and analysis and diagnosis of distributed Cyber-Physical Production Systems (CPPS). His experience with industrial informatics, resource optimization and factory automation helps ensure translational research is achieved with industrial partners in the IMPROVE project.

Alexander von Birgelen is a research assistant at the Institute Industrial IT. He studied information technology at the HS-OWL in Lemgo where he finished his M.Sc. in 2015. His research focus in IMPROVE involves machine learning and condition monitoring as well as coordinating duties.
